Virtual Jury Box is an online research platform that conducts virtual mock trials and focus groups for legal professionals. We collect and process limited personal data from two groups of users:

  • Lawyers and Legal Teams – who use our services to design and conduct jury research
  • Participants – who register to take part in paid online research sessions

Virtual Jury Box is owned and operated by Vantage Trial Consulting, located in Santa Monica, California.

2. Information We Collect

From Lawyers and Legal Teams

We may collect:

  • Name, firm name, title, and contact information
  • Billing or payment information
  • Case or project materials (uploaded voluntarily)
  • Communications and preferences shared during consultations
From Participants

We may collect:

  • Contact information (name, email, phone)
  • Demographic information (city, state, age range, occupation, education level, etc.)
  • Eligibility confirmations (U.S. citizenship, age, jury eligibility)
  • Technical information (device type, browser, IP address for security purposes)
  • Recordings of sessions conducted via Zoom (video and audio)
  • Responses to surveys or questionnaires

We do not collect Social Security numbers, financial account data, or other sensitive personal identifiers.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use personal information to:

  • Match participants with appropriate research sessions
  • Communicate about upcoming projects and scheduling
  • Conduct and moderate virtual sessions securely via Zoom
  • Process participant payments after sessions
  • Deliver research reports and insights to lawyer clients
  • Maintain internal records for business, compliance, and security purposes
  • Improve our services and website functionality

We will only use your information for the purpose for which it was collected.

4. How We Protect Your Information

We implement strong administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your data, including:

  • Encryption: All stored data uses AES-256 encryption; all transmissions use TLS 1.2+
  • Access Controls: Only authorized personnel may access participant or client data
  • Secure Hosting: Our website and databases are hosted on WP Engine, a managed, secure platform with firewalls and daily backups
  • Platform Security: We use secure tools all of which meet modern encryption and compliance standards
  • Confidentiality Agreements: All employees and contractors sign confidentiality and data-handling agreements

5. Data Retention

We keep personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described above.

  • Project-related recordings and materials are typically deleted within 90 days after project completion, unless otherwise requested by the client.
  • Participant contact data remains in our secure database until you request removal.

You can request deletion at any time (see Section 8).

6. Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We may share limited information only with:

  • Authorized project partners (for example, research moderators or data processors under contract)
  • Technology providers who process data securely on our behalf
  • Legal authorities if required by law, subpoena, or court order

All third-party service providers are bound by confidentiality and data-protection obligations consistent with this policy.

Our website may use cookies and analytics tools to improve performance and measure engagement.
Cookies do not collect personal details beyond what you voluntarily provide.

9. Data for Participants Outside the United States

Virtual Jury Box currently conducts research only in the United States and collects data solely from U.S. citizens eligible for jury service. We do not intentionally process data under non-U.S. jurisdiction, such as GDPR. If you access this site from outside the U.S., you consent to having your data processed and stored in the United States.

10. Children’s Privacy

Our services are intended for adults age 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe your child has provided us information, please contact us so we can remove it immediately.

11. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect new practices or legal requirements. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date. Material changes will be communicated by email if applicable.
